| As a proud owner of my 01 R1 I would like to do some mods over the winter like upgrade the suspension etc. What prices should I be aiming at paying and what mods should I do to the bike?
I would also like to drop a tooth of the front, were can i get the sprocket size etc and what else would I need to do? calibrate the speedo? cheers | |

| i always drop a tooth of the front sprocket on every bike, imo cheapest and best mod ya can do,ya can get 'speedo healers' to allow for the change but i never bother, speedos only a few mph out,yer chains probly a '525' it'll b stamped on it,modules handy to ya for sprocket,.....prepare yerself for takin the sprocket nut off ,,,it'll b a tight bastard, air gun probly required, altough your bikes 01 so theres a chance it'll have been already off at some stage.......as far as suspension goes yer talkin big bucks,id look for a rear shock of ebay,ohlins/ maxton/etc | |

| cheers road runner for the advice and heads up on the sprocket Will hopefully get my shed finished off over the weekend and first mod should be a sprocket and speedo healer as I dont want the bike showing unnessesary extra miles. I hear the speedo goes of about 8-10 mph or 12 % or something like that. | |

| As far as suspension goes, the front will be ok, just needs servicing, the rear on earlier R1's wasn't great from the etart. I would recommend a Nitron shock, made in England, fantastic quality at a good price. They do a few options, give me a call.

| no need to change the chain, gives it a bit more lift as I dont know about you but I can loose a few mph top end for better lift lol. on the 848 its nearly a must as it makes it far easier to ride through towns for it standard set up it geared too high to farts about in towns; dropped a tooth an it runs far better. | |

| what does the duke top out at standard anyway mate? i always hated the rsv, tlr and superduke i had for their lack of topend, low down was great, superduke was down a tooth but made 1st gear very short, useless short, 2nd was ok but 3rd should of hoiked up off the throttle but again just hit the limiter and 4th hadnt the torque..! was strange! I have the r1 standard gearing, plenty power all round, 1st 2nd and 3rd it will come up and dig you in the chest if you gun it! rocket mate the old 98 r1 i had felt the same as the 5vy, but the 01 models were geared different, defo needs a tooth down on front for fun and drive out of tournagrough lol..! | |

| depending on the weather it topped out around 166 which wasnt too bad for a 849cc twin.now it wheelies in third out of corners if ya wind it out.far more livelier than the blade low down but unlike the blade you cant get away with too much throttle on the exit of a corner; more prone to give the bars a good shake.the blade did get very boring only because it was too stable and you could ride in third/fourth gear all day.the 848 acts more like a two stroke, you have to have the right gear going into the corner or you run out of revs too quick or chug out of corners, the type of riding I like; more rider involved.thats why I wanna try the new R1, heard its the same | |
