So, the 2011 MotoGP season is getting unerway in Qatar, and Valentino Rossi has unveiled a new helmet design that looks like becoming his default helmet for 2011. This helmet will probably replce the previous 5 Continents helmet that Rossi has used as his primary helmet for the last few years.
In our opinion it is much nicer than the yellow and black helmet design that Rossi was using during pre-season testing.
True to form, this new design features the ‘sun and moon’ motifs – the sun being featured at the front of the helmet and radiating backwards, while the moon is positioned at the rear. The moon is composed of the colours of the Italain flag (red, white, green) – probably in tribute to Rossi being on a Ducati and making an ‘all-Italian’ dream-team.
The intention behind the blue eyes on the helmet image used specifically for the series Valentino Rossi Mugello 2011. Explain directly by the designer, Aldo Drudi.
"The first step is to decide the theme, this time less specific for now but still in touch with what happened last year. Specific ideas come from Stefano Marchi, my right hand, and Valentino immediately liked it. We took pictures of Valentino pupils , and then reproduced at the helm. There are two meanings: caution because Mugello can torture you, and also wary because sooner or later things will turn around ... ", an explanation quoted by Aldo Drudi in GPone.
"This year, as opposed to before, we actually finished ahead of time. From concept to production just spent two weeks. The photo was combined with the Tricolore, to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Italian unification, and Valentino dog photo, taken by the Vale itself.
